FORT MYERS, Fla. - Carroll University (3-1, 0-0 CCIW) criused to an 11-3 victory on Friday night against Lakeland University (3-5).
The Pioneers opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Juniors Hunter Frey, AJ Johnson, Jake Langford and Joe Huss all drove in runs to give the Pios the 4-0 lead.
Carroll would extend the lead to 5-0 in the second as Frey would plate Brady Durni on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Lakeland cut the lead to 5-2 with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning. However, the Pioneers would respond with a single run in the bottom half of the inning as Johnson would double to start the inning and score shortly after on a line-drive single of the bat of Langford to push the lead back to 6-2.
The Pios would break the game open in the sixth inning. Back-to-back hit and runs would spark the five run rally as Johnson, Langford and Huss would all record RBI hits in the inning, extending the lead to 11-2.
Johnson would finish the day 4x4 with a pair of doubles, Durni would record a 3x5 day while scoring three runs and Langford would finish 3x4 with three RBI.
Senior Jake Sweet (2-0) would earn the win on the mound. Sweet would work six solid innings surrendering just the two unearned runs while striking out three.
