KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Amanda Osterhus fired a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and three walks to lead the Carroll University softball team to a 4-0 victory over Simpson College to complete the opening day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola Softball Complex on Saturday.
Osterhus, a freshman right-hander from Munster, Ind., had a no-hitter working through 6 1/3 innings before yielding a left-field single.
It was the second shutout of the season for Carroll, which improved to 1-1 on its spring trip and 4-2 overall.
Osterhus, who earned her second victory of the season (2-0), currently has a team-leading 18 strikeouts with a 3.07 earned run average through 14 2/3 innings.
Freshman center fielder Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) went 2-for-3 and drove in what proved to be the winning run on a single in the top of the second for the Pioneers, who amassed 10 hits. Senior first baseman Kelly Strasser (Waterford, Wis.) contributed three hits, highlighted by a two-run home run, in the third.
It was the first homer of the season for Strasser, who leads the team with a .500 batting average (10-for-20) through six games.
Senior designated hitter Hannah Miller (Chicago, Ill.) added an RBI single in the fifth.
Junior first baseman Brianna Chaplin had the lone hit for Simpson, which dropped to 5-13 overall.Â
