KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Freshman designated hitter Haylee Arroyo (Mayville, Wis.) went 2-for-3 and drove in a run but the Carroll University softball team lost to Albright College 3-1 to begin the third day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola Softball Complex on Monday morning.
It was the third nonconference loss of the tournament for Carroll, which dropped to 2-3 on its spring trip and 5-4 overall.
Arroyo delivered an RBI single in the top of the sixth for the Pioneers, who have generated just one run in each of their tourney losses.
Senior pitcher Hannah Miller (Chicago, Ill.) had a triple and scored the lone run for Carroll, which stranded six baserunners. Sophomore catcher Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.), sophomore second baseman Maggie Erdman (Jefferson, Wis.) and sophomore right fielder Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) each added a hit.
Miller, a right-hander, took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks through six innings.
Sophomore center fielder Jordan Chell went 2-for-2 with what proved to be a game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the second for Albright, which won its season opener. Junior right-hander Riley Gerenda earned a complete-game victory, scattering six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
