Pioneers battle hard in loss to league champion

Ritter contributes two goals versus Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Ariannah Ritter scored a team-high two goals but the Carroll University women's lacrosse team lost to first-place Augustana College 14-4 in a hard-fought, physical College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Thorson-Lucken Field on Wednesday evening.
Ritter, a 5-foot-10 sophomore midfielder from Sun Prairie, Wis., registered her seventh multi-goal performance of the season and currently has a team-leading 27 goals.
It was the third consecutive conference road loss for the Pioneers, who dropped to 0-5 in the league standings and 2-14 overall.
The game remained tied 3-3 in the first half but Augustana responded with seven consecutive goals over a critical 11-minute span to gradually pull away.
Sophomore midfielder Katie Majewski (Mundelein, Ill.) and freshman attacker Amanda Ferr (Franklin, Wis.) each added a goal for Carroll, which was outshot 24-7 - including a key 12-3 shot-on-goal advantage in the decisive first half.
Ferr and junior attacker Betty Koenig (Sun Prairie, Wis.) each contributed an assist for the Pioneers, who committed 28 turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Shelby Schoob (Sun Prairie, Wis.) had three saves.
Senior attacker Anne Hopkins and senior midfielder Olivia Mayer each scored four goals for undefeated conference champion Augustana, which improved to 6-0 in conference and 9-5 overall.
