WAUKESHA, Wis. - Graduate attacker Donna January (Andower, Minn.) had a hat trick but it wasn't enough as the Carroll University women's lacrosse team lost to University of Dubuque 12-7 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin opener at Schneider Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was the fifth home-field loss of the season for the Pioneers, who dropped to 2-10 overall.
Dubuque, which improved to 8-4 overall, outscored Carroll 8-3 in the pivotal first half - including three unanswered goals over the course of the opening six minutes.
Junior attacker Betty Koenig (Sun Prairie, Wis.) and sophomore midfielder Ariannah Ritter (Sun Prairie, Wis.) each followed with two goals for the Pioneers, who were outshot 30-19 - including a critical 23-13 shot-on-goal advantage. Koenig and sophomore midfielder Katie Majewski (Mundelein, Ill.) each contributed an assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Shelby Schoob (Sun Prairie, Wis.) registered 11 saves in playing the entire way.
Freshman midfielder Claire Carlson scored a team-high four goals for Dubuque.
