WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior midfielder
Kieran DeGroot (DePere, Wis.) scored an unassisted goal at the 87:11 mark as the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Catholic University of America 2-1 in a season-opening nonconference game during the opening round of the "Turk" Emekli D.C. Classic at Cardinal Stadium on Friday afternoon.
It was the first of a two-game East Coast road trip for Carroll, which was outshot 23-3 - including a key 10-1 margin in the opening half.
Sophomore midfielder Bradley Pierro contributed an unassisted goal in the 19th minute and freshman midfielder Nelson Zimmerman scored what became the game-winner off an assist from sophomore midfielder Mike Narzikul in the 43rd minute for Catholic University.
Junior goalkeeper
Connor Thompson (Kent, Wash.) had five saves in playing the entire 90 minutes for Carroll.
