LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Lake Forest College 3-2 in a hard-fought, physical nonconference game at Farwell Field on Sunday afternoon.
It was the third one-goal loss of the season and snapped a string of back-to-back victories for Carroll, which dropped to 2-5-1 overall.
As the game remained tied 2-2 late in the second half, Lake Forest answered with the winning goal as junior forward Gaston Aubert scored off an assist from senior midfielder Osvaldo Lara Soria at the 88:03 mark. 
Sophomore forward Lucas Geib and Seton Trostle each added a goal for the Foresters, who improved to 3-3-1 overall.
Sophomore defender Issey Valadez (Milwaukee, Wis.) converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute for Carroll, which was outshot 14-12 - including a crucial 7-6 shot-on-goal margin. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Effinger (West Allis, Wis.) tied the game on an assist from freshman forward Scott Biancofiori (Janesville, Wis.) in the 72nd minute.
Junior goalkeeper Connor Thompson (Kent, Wash.) had four saves in playing the entire 90 minutes for the Pioneers.
