Carroll makes strides in five-set victory

Voltolina finishes with team-high 12 kills

APPLETON, Wis. - Senior outside hitter Dana Voltolina (St. Charles, Ill.) had a team-high 12 kills as the Carroll University women's volleyball team outlasted Lawrence University 24-26, 25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12 in a hard-fought, spirited five-set nonconference dual meet Thursday night.
It was the second five-set victory of the season for Carroll, which has won five of its last six and improved to 7-8 overall.
The come-from-behind effort took on added significance as it not only showcased the team's progression but equaled last season's victory total in the process.
Leading 13-12 in the decisive fifth set, Caroll stepped up to the pressure-packed situation as sophomore outside hitter Cassidy Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis.) delivered a critical kill to seize the momentum.
The Pioneers clinched a victory on the next point, taking advantage of a match-ending Lawrence ball-handling error.
Sophomore middle blocker Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.) contributed 11 kills and four blocks for Carroll, which was facing its former Midwest Conference rival. Mrotek  followed with nine kills and 13 digs.
Junior defensive specialist  Amanda Hahn (Itasca, Ill.), the reigning CCIW Defensive Player of the Week, had 32 digs and sophomore setter Emma Przeslicke (Evergreen Park, Ill.) added 24 assists for the Pioneers, who had 53 kills, seven service aces, 78 digs and 49 assists.
