Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Comeback falls short in home opener

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Sophomore midfielder Matt Quint (Waukesha, Wis.) scored on an eight-yard shot off a double assist from sophomore defender Issey Valadez (Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomore forward Austin Schulze (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) at the 81:17 mark but the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Wisconsin Lutheran College 2-1 in a physical, hard-fought nonconference home opener at Schneider Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was the second one-goal loss of the early season for Carroll, which couldn't overcome a two-goal first-half deficit and dropped to 0-3 overall.
Despite outshooting Wisconsin Lutheran 13-8, highlighted by a 12-3 margin in the second half, the Pioneers struggled to finish on several golden opportunities.
Junior goalkeeper Connor Thompson (Kent, Wash.) had two saves in playing the entire 90 minutes for the Pioneers, who maintained a 9-4 shot-on-goal advantage.
Sophomore forward Victor Ramirez scored in the seventh minute and junior midfielder Juan Serna contributed the game-winner on a 30-yard shot in the 24th minute for Wisconsin Lutheran, which improved to 2-0-1 overall.
