CHICAGO, Ill. - Senior guard/forward
Joel Heesch (Mauston, Wis.) registered a double-double by finishing with a team-high 18 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals to lead the Carroll University men's basketball team to an 84-66 victory over North Park University in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game Wednesday night.
It was the second conference victory of the season for Carroll, which has won two of its last three to improve to 2-7 in the league standings and 6-12 overall.
The Pioneers outscored North Park 36-24 in the first half, highlighted by what proved to be a momentum-building 11-2 run over the course of the opening five minutes.
Junior forward
Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) followed with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, a blocked shot and a steal for Carroll, which converted eight 3-point baskets, 10 of 10 free throws and shot 56.9 percent from field-goal range.
Sophomore guard
Nick Penny (Lake Zurich, Ill.) contributed 14 points with three 3-pointers and sophomore forward
Kale Maupin (Peotone, Ill.) had 11 points for the Pioneers, who generated 23 assists and maintained a 34-20 rebound advantage - including a 27-16 margin on the defensive glass.
Senior guard/forward
Tanner Zaeske (South Milwaukee, Wis.) added eight points for Carroll, which showcased its depth with nine players reaching the scoring column.
Freshman forward Matt Szuba scored a game-high 19 points with four 3-pointers for North Park, which dropped to 1-8 in conference and 4-13 overall.
