WHEATON, Ill. - Senior guard/forward
Joel Heesch (Mauston, Wis.) contributed an individual season-high 26 points, eight assists, four rebounds, a steal and blocked shot as the Carroll University men's basketball team lost a high-powered shootout with Wheaton College 97-92 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at King Arena on Wednesday night.
It was the third conference road loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 0-3 in the league standings and 4-8 overall.
The Pioneers trailed 45-41 at the intermission but were outscored 52-51 in the second half - including nine unanswered points over the course of a critical three-minute stretch.
Senior guard/forward
Tanner Zaeske (South Milwaukee, Wis.) had 19 points with four 3-point baskets for the Pioneers, who generated a season-high point total, made 12 of 15 free throws and converted eight 3-pointers. Junior guard/forward
Anthony Marlowe (South Milwaukee, Wis.) followed with a season-high 18 points, five assists and two steals.
Sophomore guard/forward
Charlie Soule (Oregon, Wis.) added 16 points and a team-best seven rebounds for Carroll, which shot 54.5 percent from field-goal range and scored 54 points in the paint.
Junior guard Aston Francis scored a game-high 40 points with seven 3-pointers and seven rebounds for Wheaton, which improved to 3-1 in conference and 9-3 overall.
The Thunder, who made 15 3-pointers and shot 55.8 percent from the field, outrebounded Carroll 33-25 - maintaining a 24-17 advantage on the defensive glass.
