BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior defender
Kimmy Wiley (Kewaunee, Wis.) scored what became the eventual winning goal off an assist from freshman midfielder
Kaitlyn Zanon (Waukesha, Wis.) at the 5:46 mark to lead the Carroll University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin showdown at Neis Field on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second consecutive victory and fifth shutout of the season for Carroll, which claimed its first conference victory to improve to 1-3-2 in the league standings and 5-8-4 overall.
The impressive road performance took on added significance for the steadily improving Pioneers as it avenged last year's stinging 2-1 CCIW Tournament semifinal loss to the Titans.
Despite being outshot 10-3 in the contest, Carroll maintained a critical 4-3 shot-on-goal advantage in the physical battle between fierce conference rivals.
Senior forward/midfielder
Delaney Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.) senior midfielder
Jensen Meyer (Germantown, Wis.) and freshman forward
Erika Hess (Green Bay, Wis.) each added a shot-on-goal for the Pioneers.
Junior goalkeeper
Christina O' Block (Libertyville, Ill.) registered three saves in playing the entire 90 minutes.
Illinois Wesleyan dropped to 3-3 in conference and 10-4-1 overall.
