Tough first half derails Carroll in CCIW opener

Soule scores season-high 17 points as Pioneers fall to No. 5-ranked Augustana 68-56

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Junior guard/forward Charlie Soule (Oregon, Wis.) contributed a team-high 17 points, including 5 of 6 free throws, and pulled down six rebounds as the Carroll University men's basketball team lost to No. 5-ranked Augustana College 68-56 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin opener at the Roy J. Carver Center on Saturday night.
It was the third consecutive loss for Carroll, which dropped to 2-4 overall.
Augustana, which won its third straight, outscored the Pioneers 33-19 in what became a decisive first half -including a game-changing, momentum-building 13-4 run over a critical seven-minute span.
Senior forward Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove, Ill.) followed with 13 points, also converting 5 of 6 free throws and finishing with a team-best five assists, three rebounds and two blocked shots for Carroll, which made two baskets from 3-point range, 12 of 18 free throws and shot 43.8 percent from field-goal range. Freshman forward Blake Williams (Lone Tree, Colo.) chipped in eight points, junior guard Nick Penny (Lake Zurich, Ill.) had five points with junior forward Kale Maupin (Peotone, Ill.) and sophomore guard Ryan Clarey (Pewaukee, Wis.) each adding four points.
Junior forward Pierson Wofford scored a team-high 16 points with five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots to lead high-octane Augustana, which converted six 3-pointers, 8 of 14 free throws and shot 52.9 percent from the field. Senior guard Nolan Ebel, senior guard Chrishawn Orange and junior guard Austin Elledge each chipped in 10 points for the Vikings, who generated 22 fast-break points.
Ebel eclipsed the prestigious 1,000-point career mark on a jump shot with 13:10 remaining to become the 28th player in program history to accomplish the feat.
