ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost to University of Northwestern 12-4 in a chilly, overcast nonconference game at Reynolds Field on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first road loss for Carroll, which entered the contest riding the momentum of back-to-back early season victories but dropped to 2-2 overall.
The Pioneers were outscored 6-2 in the first half, including what proved to be a key 4-1 margin in the opening quarter.
Sophomore midfielder
Dom Sabbarese (Verona, Wis.) contributed a team-high two goals for Carroll, which scored once in each quarter.
It was the second multi-goal performance for Sabbarese, who has scored six times this season.
Sophomore defenseman
Ian McClintock (Reno, Nevada) contributed a goal and an assist for the Pioneers, who outshot Univ. of Northwestern 43-32 - maintaining a 25-19 shot-on-goal advantage. Freshman attackman
Dylan Steichen (Bartlett, Ill.) added the other goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Abe Escrada (Sammamish, Wash.) registered seven saves in playing the entire 60 minutes.
Sophomore midfielder Noah Vander Kooi scored a game-high four goals and freshman midfielder Christian Marlenee finished with a hat trick for Univ. of Northwestern, which earned its first home-field victory of the season to improve to 1-1 overall.
