TUCSON, Ariz.- Carroll University (5-2, 0-0 CCIW) plated five runs in the bottom of the 7
th to earn a 9-5 victory over Oberlin College on Monday afternoon.
Oberlin took the early lead on an RBI ground out in the third inning.
Carroll would answer as Jake Langford would send a pitch deep over the left field fence to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to take the 2-1 lead.
The Yeoman would even the score at two in the 4
th on a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
The Pioneers would retake the lead in the bottom of the 4
th. Dylan Callahan would single to right with one out and score on a two-out single by Matt Putman to take the 3-2 lead. Freshman Ethan Burns would follow-up with a single to score Alex Kermendy to push the lead to 4-2.
Oberlin would plate single runs in the 5
th and 6
th innings to even the score at four.
The score would remain tied until the bottom of the 7
th. The Pios would score five runs after two outs to take the 9-4 lead. The big blow in the inning would be a bases-loaded triple to right-center by freshman catcher Ethan Burns. Burns would score on a Langford double to score the fifth run of the inning.
Oberlin scored a single run in the 8
th to cut the lead to 9-5, but freshman lefty Curtis Sheahan would finish the 8
th and work a clean 9
th inning to close out the Pio victory.
Carroll continues their stretch of 14 games in seven days as they face Hamline College at 4pm local time on Tuesday.
