WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University baseball team lost to North Park University 5-0 in the opening game of a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin doubleheader at Frame Park on Friday afternoon.
It was the second shut-out conference loss for the Pioneers, who dropped to 0-3 in the league standings and 9-5 overall.
North Park, which improved to 2-1 in conference and 7-11 overall, scored what proved to be the winning run on an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the first.
Freshman right-hander Michael Pritts pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk to earn a complete-game victory for the Vikings, who collected eight hits - including three home runs.
Freshman catcher Ethan Burns (Beloit, Wis.) went 2-for-3 to pace a six-hit attack for the Pioneers, who stranded nine baserunners.
Senior left-hander Carter Howard (Black Earth, Wis.) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and six walks through 5 2/3 innings.
Sophomore right-hander Max Maney (Rockford, Ill.), freshman left-hander Curtis Sheahan (Madison, Wis.) and freshman right-hander Hunter Ambre (Grayslake, Ill.) each gained valuable league experience by contributing an inning of relief to finish out the game.
