ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Sophomore pitcher
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) had a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning but the Carroll University softball team lost to Augustana College 3-1 in the finale of a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin doubleheader at Carver Field on Tuesday afternoon.
It was the first conference loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 5-1 in the league standings and 17-9 overall after splitting the twin bill.
Augustana collected the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by junior second baseman Haley Ruch. The Vikings extended the lead to 3-0 in the second as senior third baseman Lauren Severson delivered what became a game-winning run-scoring triple and later scored on an error.
Sophomore left fielder
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) had a double to help propel a six-hit attack for Carroll, which stranded five baserunners.
Kemnitzer, a right-hander who is 8-4 on the year, allowed two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in taking a complete-game loss for the Pioneers.
Freshman Cecilia Peine was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits with four strikeouts and no walks through six complete innings for Augustana, which improved to 4-4 in conference and 17-9 overall.
