BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Carroll University softball team lost to No. 17-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University 10-0 in five innings to cap a cloudy College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
It was only the second shutout loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 6-2 in the conference standings and 18-10 overall following the twin-bill split.
Illinois Wesleyan remained atop the league standings with a 9-1 record and improved to 19-8 overall.
The Titans scored twice in what became a momentum-building top of the first inning, including a game-winning RBI double by sophomore shortstop Sam Berghoff.
IWU added eight runs on six hits in the fourth to ensure a victory.
Sophomore right-hander Ally Wiegand pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks through four complete innings to earn the victory.

Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits with a strikeout and two walks through 3 2/3 innings.
Junior third baseman Julie Josten went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and scored two runs for IWU, which had 13 hits.
