WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University softball team lost a heart-breaker to Elmhurst College 2-1 in the opening game of a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin doubleheader at Kilgour Field on Saturday afternoon.
It was the fourth consecutive conference loss for Carroll, which dropped to 9-6 in the highly contested league standings and 21-14 overall.
Elmhurst collected the first run of the contest in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by junior catcher Rebekah Ondracek.
Carroll answered with a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from junior center fielder

Senior designated hitter Faith Thompson drove in what became the winning run on an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning.Â
Carroll had the potential tying run at second with one out in the seventh but hit into back-to-back fielder's choice ground outs to end the game.
Sophomore left-hander Emily Despain was the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits with one strikeout and no walks to earn a complete-game victory

Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) took the complete-game loss for the Pioneers, yielding one earned run on seven hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
Osterhus, who dropped to 12-6 overall, finished the regular season with a CCIW-leading 187 strikeouts.
