BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Carroll University softball team lost to top-seeded and No. 23-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University 6-0 in its second game of the prestigious College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin Tournament on Friday afternoon.
It was the fourth shutout loss of the year for Carroll, which was making its first trip to the CCIW Tournament in program history - but ended the season 22-16 overall following its second loss in the double-elimination competition.
Sophomore right-hander Ally Wiegand pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks through five complete innings to earn the victory for Illinois Wesleyan, which improved to 28-10-1 overall.
The high-octane Titans scored three runs in what became a decisive top of the second on a three-run home run by third baseman Julie Josten.
Illinois Wesleyan added three runs in the third to ensure a victory.

Kelsey Edwards (Rockford, Ill.)) and freshman designated hitter
Allyssa Demma (Orland Park, Ill.)Â each had a hit for Carroll.
Sophomore right-hander
Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) took the complete-game loss, yielding six earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Osterhus, who dropped to 12-7 overall, finished the season with a program-record 194 strikeouts.
Illinois Wesleyan won all three of its games on Saturday to claim the CCIW Tournament title and receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
