Growth process continues for Pioneers

MEQUON, Wis. - Junior defender Issey Valadez (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored on a free kick at the 79:31 mark as the Carroll University men's soccer team lost  to Concordia University of Wisconsin 3-1 in a tough, physical nonconference game at Fitting Field on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the third consecutive road loss for Carroll, which dropped to 0-6 overall.
The hard-fought effort took on added significance and showcased the steady progress made by the young Pioneers, who scored their first goal of the season - the first since Oct. 28, 2017.
Concordia, which earned its third straight home-field victory to improve to 3-2 overall, scored two unanswered goals in what proved to be the decisive first half.
Sophomore forward/midfielder Giampolo Lassila scored what eventually became the winning goal on a 20-yard free kick in the 40th minute for the Falcons, who outshot Carroll 20-15 in the contest.
Senior midfielder Brian Tener and sophomore forward Simon Da-Silva each added a goal for Concordia, which maintained a 12-6 shot-on-goal advantage.
Junior forward Austin Schulze (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), junior forward Shea Connell (Alfaz Del Pi, Spain), freshman forward Jack Kiiskila (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), sophomore defender Tate Rausch-Gauger (Appleton, Wis.) and freshman midfielder Ben Johnson (Wausau, Wis.) each had a shot on goal for Carroll.
