WAUKESHA, Wis. - Senior midfielder
Gina La Macchia (Mequon, Wis.) scored on an unassisted shot at the 82:38 mark but it wasn't enough as the Carroll University women's soccer team lost to Loras College 2-1 in a double-overtime thriller at Schneider Stadium on Sunday morning.
It was the first overtime loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 0-4-2 overall following the tenacious, character-building battle.
Loras, which improved to 5-2 overall, tied the game with one second remaining in regulation as Jenny Wick scored off a corner kick from Gretchen Schutz.
The Duhawks, who outshot Carroll 20-7 - including an 11-3 shot-on-goal advantage - scored the game-winner on a bouncing shot by Ryleigh O' Brien at the 101:26 mark.
Senior forward/midfielder
Delaney Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.) and freshman forward
Erika Hess (Green Bay, Wis.) each added a shot-on-goal for Carroll.
Junior goalkeeper
Christina O' Block (Libertyville, Ill.) registered nine saves in playing the entire way for the Pioneers.
