Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Carroll falls to Wheaton in tough CCIW matchup

Young Pioneers generate opportunities but struggle to convert

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Freshman forward Logan Michels (St. Charles, Ill.) converted a penalty kick at the 84:14 mark but it wasn't enough as the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Wheaton College 3-1 in a tough, physical College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Schneider Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was the fourth straight conference loss for Carroll, which dropped to 0-4 in the league standings and 7-6 overall.
Wheaton, which improved to 2-2-1 in conference and 8-4-2 overall, lead 1-0 at the intermission and put the game away with two second-half goals - including the game-winning shot by freshman midfielder Silas Galvao off an assist from freshman midfielder Michael Groza in the 67th minute.
Carroll outshot the Thunder by a 10-5 margin, including a 6-4 shot-on-goal advantage, but came up empty on several golden scoring opportunities.
Senior striker Shea Connell (Alfaz Del Pi, Spain), freshman midfielder/defender Ryan Coughlin (Crystal Lake, Ill.), freshman forward Julius Marks (Oconomowoc, Wis.), freshman midfielder/forward Jack Daly (Darien, Ill.) and freshman/defender Ricky Perez (Stevens Point, Wis.) each added a shot-on-goal for the Pioneers, who have been outscored 11-3 in league contests this season.
