Pioneers come up short in CCIW road battle

Connell scores team-leading 13th goal as Carroll falls to Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. - Senior striker Shea Connell (Alfaz Del Pi, Spain) scored his team-leading 13th goal on an unassisted shot at the 61:17 mark but the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Elmhurst 2-1 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Langhorst Field on Saturday evening.
It was the second conference loss by a one-goal margin this season for Carroll, which lost its third straight to drop to 0-5 in the league standings and 7-7 overall.
Keegan Thompson converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute and on an unassisted shot at the 58:42 mark for Elmhurst, which improved to 3-2 in conference and 9-6-1 overall.
Senior Mathias Holm (Marshfield, Wis.) had three saves for Carroll, which outshot the Bluejays 15-7 - maintaining a 7-5 shot-on-goal margin.
