Carroll claims first conference sweep of season

Pios showcase balanced attack in CCIW road victory over North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior outside hitter/middle blocker Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.) finished with a team-high eight kills and four blocks as the Carroll University women's volleyball team swept North Central College 25-23, 25-15, 25-21 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin dual meet Wednesday night.
It was the first conference sweep and sixth of the season for Carroll, which improved to 2-3 in the highly contested conference standings and 12-11 overall.
The Pioneers, who moved into sole possession of sixth place with three head-to-head league duals remaining, are scheduled to host Elmhurst College (3-2) on Oct. 23 followed by road matchups with Wheaton College (2-4) on Oct. 30 and North Park University (0-5) on Nov. 2.
Carroll is seeking its second consecutive berth in the prestigious CCIW Tournament.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Mueller (Fox Lake, Ill.) followed with seven kills for Carroll, which generated 12 kills to help power a blazing .370 hitting percentage in the pivotal, momentum-building second set. Senior outside hitter Cassidy Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis.) contributed six kills, 13 digs and a service ace.
Freshman middle blocker MacKenzie Olson (Rock Falls, Ill.) had five kills and a team-high nine blocks, junior outside hitter Sam Penzkowski (Racine, Wis.) had 16 digs and an ace with senior setter Emma Przeslicke (Evergreen Park, Ill.) adding 18 assists.
The Pioneers amassed 33 kills, 52 digs, 31 assists, 12 blocks and four aces in the competition.
North Central dropped to 0-6 in conference and 5-19 overall.
