Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Carroll dominates in nonconference victory

Pioneers defeat Northland College 7-0; generate highest single-game goal total since Oct. 4, 2014

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Senior striker Shea Connell (Alfaz Del Pi, Spain) scored two goal within the opening 13 minutes of the first half, highlighted by the eventual game-winning shot off an assist from sophomore midfielder Charlie Shaver (Waukesha, Wis.) at the 4:34 mark, as the Carroll University men's soccer team defeated Northland College 7-0 in a windy, rain-soaked nonconference game at Schneider Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was a single-game season-high goal total for Carroll, which posted its fourth shutout of the year en route to improving to 6-3 overall.
The dominant 90-mimute performance took on added meaning as it was the most goals scored by a Pioneer team since Oct. 4, 2014 (an 8-0 home-field Midwest Conference victory over Cornell College).
Carroll, which scored four unanswered goals over the course of the opening 45 minutes, outshot Northland 23-2 - including a 16-2 shot-on-goal advantage.
Freshman forward Logan Michels (St. Charles, Ill.) also contributed two goals with freshman forward Julius Marks (Oconomowoc, Wis.), freshman midfielder/forward Jake Laurent (Kenosha, Wis.) and freshman midfielder/forward Jack Daly (Darien, Ill.) each adding one for the Pioneers, who generated six corner kicks. Senior midfielder Austin Schulze (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), sophomore midfielder Dom DeLuca (New Berlin, Wis.), sophomore midfielder Samuel Baxter (Germantown, Wis.) and freshman midfielder/defender Ryan Coughlin (Crystal Lake, Ill.) each had an assist.
Senior Mathias Holm (Marshfield, Wis.) and freshman Tyler Hanson (Eau Claire, Wis.) each played a half at goalkeeper, combining for two saves to preserve a shutout.
Northland dropped to 1-8 overall.
