Pioneers fall in overtime

Carroll suffers stinging 2-1 road loss to CCIW rival Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Augustana College 2-1 in overtime, concluding a tough, tension-filled College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Thorson-Lucken Field on Saturday night.
It was the first overtime loss of the season for Carroll, which lost its second straight conference game to drop to 0-2 in league and 6-4 overall.
Senior midfielder Matt Allen scored the winning goal off an assist from junior midfielder Salah Aghlaf at the 90:19 mark for Augustana, which improved to 1-1 in conference and 3-4-1 overall.
The Vikings, who were outshot by a slim 14-13 margin but maintained a 7-5 shot-on-goal advantage, collected the first goal of the battle as junior midfielder Justin Murphy finished on an assist from Allen in the 39th minute. Senior goalkeeper Jeremy Klaber registered four saves to help preserve a victory.
Carroll's lone goal came as freshman midfielder/defender Ryan Coughlin (Crystal Lake, Ill.) converted a penalty kick at the 68:55 mark to tie the game 1-1 and ultimately force overtime.
Senior defender Issey Valadez (Milwaukee, Wis.) generated two shot-on-goal attempts with senior defender Peanut Taylor (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and freshman forward Julius Marks (Oconomowoc, Wis.) adding one each.
Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Hanson (Eau Claire, Wis.) contributed five saves in playing the entire way for the Pioneers.
