Carroll shows heart in road loss to No. 15 North Park

Marks scores unassisted goal in the 38th minute as Pioneers fall 2-1 in CCIW battle

CHICAGO, Ill. - Freshman forward Julius Marks (Oconomowoc, Wis.) scored on a breakaway goal at the 37:37 mark but it wasn't enough as the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to No. 15-ranked North Park University 2-1 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Holmgren Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
It was the fourth conference loss by a one-goal margin for Carroll, which dropped to 0-7 in conference and 7-9 overall.
Niclas Holgersson scored the opening goal of the contest in the 28th minute and William Sandkvist followed with the game-winning shot at the 29:56 mark for North Park, which improved to 6-1 in the league standings and 13-4 overall.
The Vikings outshot Carroll 18-7 - including a key 7-4 shot-on-goal margin.
Senior striker Shea Connell (Alfaz Del Pi, Spain), sophomore midfielder/forward Jason Sanderfoot (New London, Wis.) and freshman defender Ricky Perez (Stevens Point, Wis.) each added a shot-on-goal for the Pioneers.
Carroll freshman goalkeeper Tyler Hanson (Eau Claire, Wis.) registered five saves in playing the entire 90 minutes.
