Carroll suffers first conference loss

Pioneers come up short in spirited CCIW matchup with Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The young, scrappy Carroll University women's soccer team lost to Augustana College 1-0 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Thorson-Lucken Field on Saturday evening.
It was the first conference loss of the season for Carroll, which entered the showdown ranked 10th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Central Region poll but dropped to 0-1-1 in the highly competitive conference standings and 5-3-2 overall.
Sophomore forward Marcela Arreguin scored what proved to be the winning goal off an assist from junior midfielder Karissa Gottardo at the 38:17 mark for Augustana, which improved to 1-1 in league and 7-1-2 overall.
Junior goalkeeper Sydney Ion registered five saves to preserve a shutout for the Vikings, who outshot Carroll 12-9 - including a 6-5 shot-on-goal margin.
Senior defender Lisa Harwardt (Lake Zurich, Ill.), sophomore defender/midfeidler Mattie Pusateri (Lombard, Ill.), freshman midfielder/forward Simone Lippmann (Lindenhurst, Ill.), freshman midfielder Sophia Cuttill (Oshkosh, Wis.) and freshman midfielder Lauren Victorin (Downer's Grove, Ill.) each had a shot-on-goal opportunity for Carroll, which attempted five corner kicks.
