Carroll learns in loss to No. 9 Wheaton

O' Block finishes with career-high 13 saves; becomes all-time leader in program history

WHEATON, Ill. - Senior goalkeeper Christina O' Block (Libertyville, Ill.) registered a memorable career-high 13 saves, including eight in the first half, as the Carroll University women's soccer team lost to No. 9-ranked Wheaton College 2-0 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Joe Bean Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was the second conference loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 0-2-1 in the league standings and 5-4-2 overall.
The stellar individual performance took on added significance as O' Block became the program's all-time leader in saves - accomplishing the impressive feat on her historic 10th save coming at the 50:29 mark of the battle.
O' Block, who earned second-team all-conference honors in the CCIW last year, has amassed 259 saves during her standout four-year career - breaking the former record of 258 established by Ashley Reinke.
Wheaton, which remained unbeaten in the conference with a 3-0 record and improved to 11-1-1 overall, scored two first-half goals.
Sophomore midfielder Jensen Ellis scored what proved to be the winning goal off an assist from Carney Blake at the 4:42 mark for the Thunder, who outshot Carroll 21-6 - including a dominant 15-3 shot-on-goal margin. Junior defender Sarah Tomich had the other goal on an assist from sophomore forward/midfielder Sara Bakke in the 11th minute.
Junior forward Brookelyn Campbell (Oconomowoc, Wis.), sophomore forward Erika Hess (Green Bay, Wis.) and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Zanon (Waukesha, Wis.) each generated a shot-on-goal attempt for Carroll.
