Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's tennis team came back after a tough loss yesterday to win in a demanding fashion against North Park today in Waukesha. The women won 8-1, improving to 6-5 on the season in duals, and 6-1 at home in the final home dual of the fall.
The three doubles pairing for the Pioneers were victorious in all three of their matches today.
Grace Krueger (Geneva, Ill.)/
Ashley LaBelle (Mukwonago, Wis.) defeated their opponents 8-2, to move to 6-6 overall.
Maya Gaedtke (Antigo, Wis.)/
Carolyn Merkatoris (De Pere, Wis.) won by a score of 8-3, and
Rachel Papp (Franklin, Wis.)/
Erika Bosman (De Pere, Wis.) finished first for the Pioneers with a score of 8-3.
In singles, six out of five Pioneers won in straight sets, including Krueger (6-1, 6-2), Gaedtke (6-4, 6-2),
Lora Leach (East Troy, Wis.) (6-0, 6-1), Bosman (6-2, 6-1), and Papp. Papp faced tough competition in her 7-5, 7-6
2 win, but Merkatoris couldn't shake her opponent, falling 6-0, 6-1.
The Pioneers will play the next two matches on the road against conference foes Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan, before hosting the CCIW Tournament in Hanover Park, Ill. in two weeks to cap off the fall season.
