Carroll suffers devastating season-ending loss

Pioneers fall to North Park in five-set thriller; officially eliminated from CCIW Tournament contention

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Carroll University women's volleyball team lost to North Park University 25-19, 13-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-10 in a hard-fought, five-set College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin season finale Saturday afternoon.
It was the second consecutive conference road loss for Carroll, which was officially eliminated from CCIW Tournament contention with the frustrating outcome - ending the season 3-5 in the league standings and 14-15 overall.
The Pioneers trimmed the deficit to 12-10 in the decisive fifth set but surrendered three straight points as the result of a kill, a ball-handling error and what proved to be a match-clinching service ace.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Mueller (Fox Lake, Ill.) generated a team-high 10 kills for Carroll, which overcame an early one-set deficit by capturing back-to-back victories in the second and third sets. Freshman middle blocker MacKenzie Olson (Rock Falls, Ill.) contributed nine kills with senior opposite hitter/middle blocker Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.) and senior outside hitter Cassidy Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis.) each following with eight kills.
Senior setter Jennilyn Joy Cave (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added 23 assists.
Niki Ahlstrand finished with 16 kills and Kailyn Matthews had 14 kills for North Park, which ended the season 2-6 in conference and 12-17 overall.
