SEWANEE, Tenn. - Carroll University dropped the third game of the weekend series at Sewanne (7-1, 0-0 SAA) by the final of 9-2 on Monday afternoon.
The Pioneers would get on the board in the top of the first with consecutive singles by Sam Harmeyer, Matt Putman and Dylan Callahan to take the 1-0 lead.
As was the trend in the series, the Pios had a difficult time keeping Sewanee off the board in the early innings. The Tigers would answer with three runs in the first and and two more in the second to take a 5-1 lead.
Carroll would score a run in the top of the fifth and manage to work out of bases loaded jams in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth, but could manage much more as Sewanee swept the season opening series.
The Pioneers will return to action in Tucson, Arizona on March 8th as they face North Central University out of Minnesota.
