CLERMONT, Fla. - Freshman left fielder
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) went 2-for-3 with a solo home run but it wasn't enough as the Carroll University softball team lost to Mount Union 3-1 in a nonconference game to begin its fifth day of the PFX Spring Games at the Hancock Rec Complex on Thursday afternoon.
It was the second straight loss for Carroll, which dropped to 6-3 on its Florida spring break trip and 7-5 overall.
Schneider, who homered for the first time in her collegiate career, blasted a shot to left field in the top of the second inning as the Pioneers claimed an early lead.
Mount Union answered with single runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and six to pull away - including a game-winning RBI single to right field by sophomore left fielder Brooklyn Hellman in the fifth.
Senior first baseman
Kelsey Edwards (Rockford, Ill.), junior designated player
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) and sophomore shortstop
Jordan Wermund (Stevensville, Mich.) each added a hit for Carroll, which collected five hits and stranded five baserunners.
Freshman Alexandra Pasco pitched a five hitter with four strikeouts and no walks to earn a complete-game victory for Mount Union, which improved to 7-4 overall.
Junior right-hander
Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) allowed three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in taking the loss.
