DE PERE - The Carroll University softball team lost to St. Norbert College 10-4 in the finale of a nonconference doubleheader at Miron Construction Field on Wednesday evening.
The frustrating road loss snapped a string of two consecutive victories for Carroll, which dropped to 10-7 overall.
Carroll scored its first run in the top of the first inning as freshman designated playerÂ
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) delivered an RBI single.
St. Norbert, which improved to 7-5 overall, answered with single runs in the bottom of the first and second to claim a 2-1 lead.
The Green Knights responded with five runs on five hits in what became a decisive fourth - powered on a three-run double by junior third baseman Carley Frauenhoff.
The Pioneers trimmed the deficit to 7-3 in the fifth on an RBI sacrifice fly by freshman center fielder
Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) and a run-scoring single from junior left fielder
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) but couldn't get any closer.
Carroll's final run came on an RBI single by sophomore shortstop
Jordan Wermund (Stevensville, Mich.) in the sixth.
Schneider and senior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) each had two hits for the Pioneers, who amassed 11 hits but stranded eight baserunners.
Freshman right-hander
Kaylee Learman (Greenwood, Wis.) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits with one strike out and one walk through 3 1/3 innings.
