MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Freshman center fielder
Sierra Grubor (Waukesha, Wis.) went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored as the Carroll University softball team defeated Alverno College 7-4 in the finale of a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday night.
The game was suspended after five innings because of darkness.
The Pioneers, who improved to 12-9 overall with the doubleheader sweep, scored two runs in the top of the first, three in the decisive second and two in the fourth.
Junior designated player
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to left field and Grubor scored as the result of a wild pitch in the first.
Grubor responded with a clutch, two-run triple and freshman shortstop
Madison Wagner (Harrison, Wis.) had what later became a game-winning RBI double down the right-field line as the Pioneers extended the lead to 5-0 in the second.
Alverno, which dropped to 9-11, answered with two runs in the bottom of the second and third to trim the deficit to 5-4.
Freshman left fielder
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) contributed an RBI sacrifice fly and Jrolf added a run-scoring single to center field in the fourth to ensure a victory.
Junior right-hander
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) was the winning pitcher, allowing three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk in going the distance.
Kemnitzer, who improved to 5-0 overall, currently has a 3.43 earned run average with 39 strikeouts and seven walks through 39 1/3 innings.
