Carroll opens season with heartbreaking loss

Pioneers fall to Lake Forest 1-0 in nonconference showdown

Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Carroll University women's soccer team lost to Lake Forest College 1-0 in a hard-fought season-opening nonconference game at Farwell Field on Saturday afternoon.
Lake Forest freshman forward Raven Dziedzinski converted what proved to be the winning goal on an assist from senior midfielder Sangjun Hornewer at the 78:11 mark.
Carroll outshot the Foresters 20-9, including an 8-6 shot-on-goal margin, but struggled to convert on several golden opportunities down the stretch.
Junior forward Brookelyn Campbell (Oconomowoc, Wis.) had three shots on goal and junior defender Claudia Jones (Oregon, Wis.) followed with two for the Pioneers, who came up empty on seven corner kicks in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Christina O' Block (Libertyville, Ill.) registered five saves in playing the entire 90 minutes.
