Kenosha, Wis. – The Carroll University's women's tennis team struggled against Carthage on Friday, falling 9-0.
In doubles play, Grace Krueger and Ashley LaBelle fought hard, but were edged by Carthage's number one pair, 8-6. Other Pioneers fell to a similar fate, with Maya Gaedtke with Carolyn Merktoris falling 8-4, and Rachel Papp with Fancesca Grimes falling 8-1.
In singles competition, Gaedtke put up a strong fight against Carthage's Rachel Adams, lasting three sets. Gaedtke won the first set, but couldn't hold the momentum, and she eventually was defeated in the final set (2-6, 6-4, 15-13). The other Pios unfortunately were bested in two sets, including Krueger (6-4, 6-2), LaBelle (6-2, 6-1), Lora Leach (6-4, 6-1), and Erika Bosman (6-2, 6-1).
Carroll looks to bounce back again, and will be on the road for the ITA championships next weekend to face new competition.
