Connell registers first collegiate hat trick to lead Pioneers

Pioneers win fourth straight; equal all-time best program record with 22 goals through first seven games

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Senior striker Shea Connell (Alfaz Del Pi, Spain) contributed his first collegiate hat trick, including what became the winning goal on a header at the 4:09 mark, to lead the Carroll University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College in a nonconference game at Warrior Soccer Field on Wednesday night.
It was the fourth consecutive victory for Carroll, which recorded its third shutout of the season to improve to 5-2 overall.
The Pioneers have scored 22 goals through their first seven games, equaling an all-time program-best record established in 1996 and 2000.
Connell finished off an assist from senior defender Issey Valadez (Milwaukee, Wis.) to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 86th minute and added his final goal in the 89th minute.
The Pioneers outshot Wisconsin Lutheran 18-5 in the contest, maintaining a 7-1 shot-on-goal advantage.
Senior goalkeeper Mathias Holm (Marshfield, Wis.) played the entire 90 minutes to help preserve a shutout.
Junior goalkeeper Erek Lehnen registered seven saves for Wisconsin Lutheran, which dropped to 4-2 overall.
