De Pere, Wis. – The Carroll University Pioneers swimming and diving programs competed in their first meet of the new year at St. Norbert. The women win their second meet in a row by a score of 172-100, but the shallow depth of the men's team fell 21-217.
For the women, it was a night full of success. Six Pios took home the gold medal place, including Lindsay Coons (100 yd freestyle, 500 yd freestyle, 100 yd backstroke),
Emily Wong (200 yd butterfly, 100 yd butterfly),
Jordan Andrews (200 yd backstroke),
Amanda Klaeser (1000 yd freestyle),
Madeline Nelson (200 yd backstroke), and
Kara Loy (50 yd freestyle) her first, first-place finish of her career. Klaeser, Coons (500 yd freestyle), and
Sara Janz (200 yd freestyle) finished their events with season best times as well. A Pioneer came out on top in all events but one, including both relay events.
For the men,
Kentarrius Braxton posted a season best time in the 100 yard butterfly, with his fourth place finish.
Michael Beckman (100 yd backstroke) and
Zach Mirza (50 yard freestyle) were able to finish with a second and third place finish, respectively. The men were unable to scrape together a first place finish in any event.

Kelsie Miller had this to say on the event: "This was a very exciting way to start off 2020. We have spent the last 2 weeks training hard and today you could tell it was starting to pay off. The team looks stronger, faster, and more cohesive."
The Pioneers will travel on short rest to Illinois Institute of Technology tomorrow, January 18, 2020.
