Momentum-shifting third quarter costly in home-field loss

Schultz and Ranjo each score two goals as Carroll falls to Westminster in nonconference game

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Senior midfielder/attackman Jeff Schultz contributed two goals, four ground balls and an assist as the Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost to Westminster College 14-4 in a nonconference game at Schneider Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was the third-home field loss of the season for Carroll, which was coming off of its first victory of the year but dropped to 1-4 overall.
The Pioneers trailed 5-2 at the intermission but yielded seven unanswered goals in what became a momentum-shifting third quarter.
Schultz has scored a team-leading 10 goals this season to pace the Carroll offensive attack.
Junior attackman Airik Ranjo followed with two goals and senior midfielder Michael Peters finished with two assists for the Pioneers, who were outshot 47-22 - including a 34-10 shot-on-goal margin. Senior midfielder Christopher Bechtel won six face offs.
Senior goalkeeper Abe Escarda registered 19 saves in playing 46 minutes.
Chris Slater and Ryan Greer each finished with a hat trick for Westminster, which improved to 2-5 overall.
