Clermont, Fla. – The Carroll University softball team battled against good teams in Plymouth State and Simmons, and came away victorious in both games, 4-3 against Plymouth and 4-1 against Simmons. The Pioneers earned their tenth straight victory on the season.
GAME 1
Kaylee Learman picked up two more RBIs off of three hits and a walk.
Mathena Higgins provided the game winning, walk-off RBI with a bases loaded walk to score
Emily Green. Green herself scored two runs on the afternoon.
Grace Bradley earns a win through 6.1 innings pitched, allowing six hits and three runs.
Breanna Roberts came in to save the game when Plymouth State tied it at three.
Lauren Harshbarger was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third. Green singled to right field, before
Madison Wagner continued her hot streak with an RBI double to left field to score Harshbarger. Learman added to the lead with a single up the middle to score Wagner and Green.
The Pioneers had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth to threaten again but Higgins lined one over to third who stepped on the bag for the final out.
In the top of the seventh, a hard hit ball back at Bradley jumped in the air to score a Panther from third. Roberts soon came in for Bradley but Bradley was responsible for the two more runs to follow. A fielder's choice scored one and a passed ball scored another before a flyout to center field to end the inning.
Claudia Spencer came up to the plate with two outs and drew an intentional walk to load the bases for Higgins. Higgins forced the count to 3-2 before sitting on the final pitch that sent her to first base and scored Green.
GAME 2
Six Pioneers collected hits with
Megan Funk earning the lone RBI in the contest.
Amanda Osterhus surrendered her first run of the season with a deep home run to centerfield. She only gave up one additional hit and fanned 10 over a full seven innings. Osterhus' scoreless inning streak ended at 39.1 innings pitched, the longest of her career.
Allyssa Demma singled to right field before a throwing error scored Spencer. Funk grounded out to score
Kate Christian, and
Lauren Harshbarger reached on an error to score Demma.
In the top of the sixth, Demma once again helped a Pio score with Higgins reaching third and scoring on a throwing error by the right fielder.
A half inning later, Osterhus loaded the bases and a fly ball to Christian in center landed right in her glove, Simmons tried to score on the play, but Christian delivered a rocket to Demma at the plate to keep the three run lead intact. Osterhus went three-up and three-down to finish the game in the bottom of the seventh.
The Pioneers have a rescheduled game against Becker college at 11:30 AM ET, then continue against Nichols college at 1:30 PM ET.
