ELMHURST, ILL. – The Carroll University men's soccer team suffered its second defeat this week against the CCIW foes Elmhurst University. The Pioneers fell 0-2 to the Bluejays on the road.
Ethan Pequignot led with three shots, two of which were on goal.
The Pioneers (7-3-1, 0-1-1 CCIW) collected 14 shots including eight in the first half, despite just two corner kicks all game. Carroll recorded three saves against Elmhurst's 10 total shots. The Pioneers gave up 13 free-kick opportunities on fouls but walked away without any cards.
Elmhurst scored quickly in the game to shock the Pios. Elmhurst scored on a header pass that was deflected. Pequignot tried to respond with two shots, but one was saved and the other missed top left. Elmhurst took a 2-0 lead early in the second half with a goal shortly after the Bluejay's first corner kick of the half.
Carroll had two shots on goal in the 74
th and 75
th minutes by
Sam Dorchester and
Julius Marks, but both attempts were saved by the Elmhurst keeper. Carroll forced two more shots on goal in the final ten minutes, but both were saved again to shut out the Pioneers.
Carroll will regroup and head home to Schneider Stadium for a CCIW matchup with North Park on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:30 PM.
