WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's volleyball team lost to Illinois Wesleyan University 15-25, 25-13, 25-18, 27-25 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin dual meet at Van Male Field House on Wednesday night.
Despite a strong, energized start and enthusiastic effort, Carroll dropped to 0-5 in the league standings and 6-15 overall with the Homecoming Week performance.
It was the second four-set loss of the season for the Pioneers.
Cathleen Flannery contributed a team-high 13 kills and two blocks for Carroll, which registered 13 kills, committed only two errors and finished with a .333 hitting percentage in the confidence-building first-set victory.
Peyton Frost followed with 11 kills,
Ashley Konecki had 10 kills, three blocks and two assists with
Alianiz Rivera-Rosado collecting two service aces and two assists for the Pioneers.
Caitlin Laird had 14 digs with
Emily Schliesman adding 11 digs and 35 assists.
Madi Corey finished with 13 kills for Illinois Wesleyan, which improved to 5-1 in conference and 12-10 overall.
With the score tied 25-25 in the decisive fourth set, Carroll yielded a kill by Corey followed by a victory-clinching ace.
It was the 500th career victory for Illinois Wesleyan head coach Kim Nelson-Brown.
