Men’s Soccer Defeated At Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team could not overcome three second-half goals by the regionally-ranked Carthage Firebirds on Wednesday night, as they fell 1-5. Ethan Pequignot scored the lone Carroll goal in the first half.

The Pioneers (8-5-1, 1-3-1 CCIW) brought the game back to within one in the first half, but an onslaught of Carthage goals to start the second half took the air out of the Pioneer sails. Carroll delivered 13 total shots, but the Firebirds got off 23 total, 11 of which were on goal. Ryan Coughlin and Julius Marks supplied three shots each off the bench to lead the team. Carthage's attack led to seven offsides, versus just two from Carroll.

The Firebirds controlled the shots early in the first half, but Ricky Perez recorded Carroll's first shot of the night in the 19th minute, as he was blocked on his attempt. Carthage scored first in the 21st minute and scored just 16 seconds later to take a 2-0 lead.

Sam Dorchester served a ball to Pequignot in the 28th minute that found the goal. The Pios had cut the lead to one. Eight minutes into half number two, Carthage scored to go up two goals. Carthage added their fourth and fifth goals before the 60th minute of the game, and the Pioneers could not keep up with the pace. Carroll had taken 10 shots in the second half but could not break the deficit.

The Pioneers return home for Senior Day at Schneider Stadium on Saturday, October 23 at 3:30 PM as they face the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan.
