NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Carroll University women's soccer team fell in the final regular season game of 2021 to the Cardinals of North Central by a score of 1-4.
Elizabeth Weinberg scored her 11
th goal of the season in the defeat.
The Pioneers (11-5-2, 3-4-1 CCIW) will finish fifth in the CCIW, just outside a bid for the CCIW Tournament. Carroll struggled to keep up with a strong Cardinal attack, that got off 22 shots to Carroll's eight.
Jo Ueland,
Kaitlyn Zanon, and
Ally Scoma all led the team with two shots each.
Rachel Jenewein had a career high nine saves, but allowed four goals to hit the back of the net.
The Cardinals got on the board quickly in the 16
th minute with their first goal immediately after a Jenewein save. North Central scored in the 42
nd minute just before the end of the first half to take a 2-0 lead.
Carroll struck first in the second half, with Weinberg's goal being assisted by Ueland and
Kenzie Blau. Carroll wouldn't take another shot for another 15 minutes after the goal, and the Cardinals added one back in the 75
th minute. The Cardinals put the nail in the coffin in the 81
st minute.
The Pioneers' 11 wins is the most in a season since 2017, and Carroll passed the 300 shot mark with 304 total shots this season.
