Elkhorn, Wis. – The Carroll University women's tennis team brought home the CU cup for the first time in program history in the 6-3 win over Concordia University of Wisconsin on Sunday. This cup match began back in 2016, and this is the first time the Pioneers have defeated the Falcons since it's inception.

In doubles, Grace Krueger and Madison Ostrander moved to 2-0 as a pairing, after a tough battle against the first and second seeds from Concordia. They won their match 8-6. Maya Gaedtke and Carolyn Merkatoris had an easier time against their opponents, winning handily 8-2. Rachel Papp and Francesca Grimes fell in a closely contested match, 6-8.

In singles, Krueger took care of business and defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-3. The freshman Ostrander fell in straight sets 2-6, 2-6 in the number two spot. Maya Gaedtke won easily in the first set, 6-2, but came up just short in the second set falling 6-7. The tie breaker set went all the way to 13-11 in favor of Gaedtke. Lora Leach defeated her opponent 7-5 in the first set before Concordia's number four retired the match. Merkatoris had a tough match on her hands in the fifth spot, but came away victorious, 7-5, 7-6 (5). Papp fell quickly in the first set 2-6, but showed more grit in the second set, falling 4-6.

The Pioneers have some time off before their first conference match of the spring against the Wheaton College Thunder.
