LA CROSSE, Wis. -
Clara Jelacic finished with a team-high seven goals, 11 draw controls, 11 ground balls, six caused turnovers and an assist as the Carroll University women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 18-3 in a nonconference game at Veteran's Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was the fifth consecutive victory for Carroll, which won for the first time on the road this season to improve to 5-1 overall.
The Pioneers outscored UW-La Crosse 10-2 in the opening half, powered by 10 unanswered goals over the course of a momentum-shifting 23-minute stretch.
The Pioneers have combined to outscore their last five opponents 90-25, fueled by a 63-10 margin in the first half.
Carroll has maintained a balanced scoring attack, recording 10 or more first-half goals (highlighted by a program-best 17 goals in the home-opener versus Edgewood College) in each of its five victories this season.
Michaela Johnson contributed four goals, four draw controls and two assists for the Pioneers, who outshot UW-La Crosse 40-7 (maintaining a 30-5 shot-on-goal margin).
Courtenay Karls followed with two goals, six draw controls, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and two assists.
Katrina Hardin had two goals, four draw controls and two assists for Carroll, which converted on 4 of 9 free-position-shot opportunities.
Alyssa Scharff,
Courtney Wright and
Zoe Esveldt each had goal. Scharff and
Jenna May each added an assist in the rout.
Alicia Van Dale and
Rebecca McDaniel each played a half at goalkeeper, combining for two saves to help preserve a victory.
Anna Davis, Nicole Jernander and Grace Willmott each scored a goal for UW-La Crosse, which dropped to 3-2 overall.
