Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's tennis team faced off against Millikin on Saturday afternoon to open the Jean Kilgour Trailblazer Tennis Complex for the first time this season. The Pioneers fought close matches but fell 4-5.
In doubles,
Grace Krueger and
Madison Ostrander improved their duos record after defeating their pairing 8-4.
Maya Gaedtke and
Carolyn Merkatoris tied 7-7 against their opponent but fell 2-7 in the tie breaker.
Rachel Papp and Katelyn Brandl dropped their match 2-8.
In singles, Krueger fell in the first set by a score of 3-6, but came back by winning set two 6-4, and the tiebreaker 7-5. Gaedtke collected a win after a (6) 6-6, 6-1 victory in the number three spot.
Lora Leach also added a win against the Big Blue's number four seed by scores of (6-0, 6-7, 6-2). Merkatoris won her first set 6-4 but dropped the next set and the tie-breaker 2-6, 2-6. Papp and Ostrander fell in straight sets.
The Pioneers will return tomorrow morning in a home match against Illinois Wesleyan at 10:30 AM.
