Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University men's basketball team will travel to Elmhurst University on Saturday, March 6 for the start of the 2021 CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament. The Pioneers, who come in as a six seed, will take on the three-seeded Bluejays.
 
The Pioneers (5-7, 5-7 CCIW) are making their second appearance in the CCIW Conference Tournament in the past five seasons, after making their first appearance in 2018-19. The men fell in that quarterfinal matchup against Illinois Wesleyan on the road.
 
Carroll comes into this matchup against Elmhurst after splitting the season series at one apiece. The Pios grabbed a road win down in Elmhurst, only for the Bluejays to return the favor in Van Male Field House. Justin Steinike led with 17 points on 6-13 shooting, while the Pio bench added in 24 combined points from Ryan Mendoza, Carter Sturgeon, and Ethan Balinao.
 
In the home matchup on 2/13, Tarren Hall and Tyler Miller combined for 34 of the Pioneers' 72 points, with Hall knocking down ten shots from the floor for 22 points. The Pioneers shot 50% in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the CCIW tournament champs from a season ago.
 
The Pioneer's defense has kept them close in games, sitting fourth in the league allowing just 68.9 points per game, despite four teams in the CCIW averaging over 70 points per game.
